IKE: A Publishing Project is an independent book publisher based in Portland, Oregon. We publish short stories, essays, and poetry.

Shorter works are largely scorned by agents, editors, and publishers. Writers who produce collections are encouraged to write novels, and bookstores are hesitant to stock them.

But, we believe a book is a piece of art. We aren’t concerned with word counts or genres. If a story reads well, regardless of length, it should be housed in an attractive cover with great looking paper, and make the reader contemplate the physicality of it all. 

What better way to sample new and undiscovered authors?  Or read a fabulous morsel even when your attention or time is short?  Short stories are little concentrated doses, often finely tuned to create an environment or moment -- a vignette just for the reader to walk into and live for a brief flash.
